Topic: MVD RTF component file size

Hi All,

Content I saved with MVD RTF editor created 3MB file (linked RTF file)
Same content saved with Libre Office Writer as a RTF created 300 kb file.
Why MVD RTF file so big, compare to Libre Office Writer RTF?

Am I doing something wrong or it's due to MVD RTF component capabilities?

Re: MVD RTF component file size

Hi Adam

It's hard to answer your question without seeing the files.
I can only show the results of the test of the same text with pictures that was placed in different programs by pasting. Saved in RTF format.

MVD - 1058 kb
Word - 3863 kb
Writer - 6560 kb.
The main difference is in saving pictures.

The same file without pictures.
MVD - 39 kb
Word - 84 kb
Writer - 17 kb.
In this case, the difference is in the format of saving Unicode characters and other service information.

So there is nothing surprising.

Re: MVD RTF component file size

Hi Sparrow,

Thank you very much for the reply....

I have used 1MB sample RTF file from:
https://file-examples.com/index.php/sam … -download/

MVD: 4MB
Writer RTF format: 943 kb
Writer odt format: 437 kb

When 2 images taken out
MVD: 42 kb
Writer RTF format: 48 kb

Looks like MVD RTF saving images in raw format or something. I remember now that Dmitry has pointed this out and suggested saving images as linked.

This is no big deal as there is a workaround for not saving images into DB.
My main issue with linked RTF... Please see my latest post in Linked RTF topic

Re: MVD RTF component file size

The main difference when saving is the format of the pictures inside the RTF file. But we cannot influence this in MVD.

Re: MVD RTF component file size

I'm not sure if it's unique to my situation getting large rtf files with MVD RTF or not.

As you can see from the screen capture there is no image and limited formatting. However, it created 3MB RTF file.
I have copied some text from the web. Pasted into Notepad to eliminate web formatting and get plain text.

1. I have copied it from Notepad into MVD RTF, did some formatting and saved. I got 3MB file. - writer created 245 kb file
2. Same plain text pasted into MVD RTF with no formatting and saved. I got another 3MB file.
3. I restart MVD app and pasted same plain text into MVD RTF with no formatting and saved. This time I got 2 kb file.

I used the same template app I posted in Linked RTF topic.

Here is the plain text version I was using for this testing:

'I can't run a business like this': Why the WordPress row matters

One of the world's biggest web publishing platforms - used by a large chunk of the internet - is locked in a spat which is affecting thousands of businesses worldwide.

While most of the work WordPress is not seen by internet users, it says its behind-the-scenes web-building tools power 40% of the world's websites.

That means its disagreement with a company called WP Engine is causing disruption to the huge number businesses that rely on the two organisations to keep their websites running.

Tricia Fox, who runs an agency that manages about 70 websites - and is caught up in the row - told the BBC: "I can't run a business on this level of uncertainty."

The very wide use of WordPress makes it "crucial to the internet", according to Daniel Card, fellow of BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT.

But that also means "its actions definitely have a big ripple effect online", he says - a ripple effect firms like Tricia Fox's are starting to really feel.
