Topic: Localization feature
Hi,
when can we expect a localizable version of MVD ? Without that, it will sadly be no solution for us, since users expect to see dialogues and messages in their language.

Hello,
Almost all dialogs or messages you can replace using script.
What kind of dialogs and messages you talk?
I read in this forum, that localization is in the works. So I asked.
Haven´t worked really with MVD and search for a FileMaker alternative - do you know FileMaker? Could you tell me, what the biggest differences between FileMaker and MVD are - besides that MVD is not available for Mac OS X.
Thanks in advance.
Martin
Unfortunately I did not use FileMaker and can't tell you what the differences between FileMaker and MVD )
I agree with MB that you said localization was planned. It would be very useful to have some kind of property for the object to select a language ID then storing the localization in a table would be easy. Scripting loads of translations one by one is just a chore, really.

Perhaps you get a demo of it.
Very much of your product looks like you could be a strong competitor for FileMaker. They are large and slow.
Publish a comparison sheet on your website between MVD and FileMaker and Access - guess it will bring you loads of traffic and new users/customers.
The main differences between Filemaker and MVDB are:
- History: Filemaker has a long history whereas MVDB is very new
- Features: Filemaker is by far much more advanced than MVDB (see above)
Filemaker focuses on the user interface and reports whereas MVDB focuses on the database (at the moment)
MVDB uses SQLite whereas Filemaker can use any data source from excel files to ODBC
Creating a report with Filemaker is much more easier than with MVDB
- Price: MVDB is cheaper yet powerful enough for some projects.
I chose MVDB for its price, the quick support and the openness of the solution, we all help it growing I wish MVDB could compete with Filemaker in the near future
Demos for Filemaker : http://www.filemaker.com/products/demos/#fm-demo(look the one with a red button)
I know FileMaker, I am a professional FM-Developer since 1994 and version 3.
So I would be much more interested on what are the strengths and weaknesses of MVD.
So far I see:
- no localization at all
- no Mac support
- lower price tag
Currently I would see the "youth" of MVD as an advantage :-)
Is there a roadmap ?
What about multiuser?
Is there a documentation for the functions integrated ?
MB
Currently there is no roadmap yet.
You can use multiuser:
- for SQLite using shared folder in the LAN
- using MySQL (original multi-user database)
Here you can find example, how to create users via script:

Video lessons:
http://myvisualdatabase.com/video_lessons.html
Documentation:

Thanks a lot.
Any docs about the functions (reference) and the scripting ?
Thanks a lot.

Script is pascal language, so you can use any book about Pascal (Delphi) language.
Here you can find list functions and classes
Thanks again :-)
Another plus for MVD: Excellent and immediate support/reaction.
Two more questions:
1. Do I have to buy the Fast Report designer separately?
2. How can I start this thing to directly edit an existing report? Didn´t find an installation of Fast Reports and there is no editor for the fr3 file found by the system.
Fast report is embedded.
This is one of the weakness of MVDB, to create a report, you have first to design your form with a button report in design mode and once everything is designed, you switch to the report you created.

It is not user friendly at all, especially when you come from Filemaker I must say...
We all hope some development on this feature soon!
ups
at least it should be possible to open these .fr3 files directly to edit them.

1. No, if you disable access to report designer for end user from menu (restrictions by license of FastReport)
http://myvisualdatabase.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1440
2. Run your project, then follow menu: Options > Report designer
then you can open exists .fr3 file (File > Open)
Hello Dmitry
To permanently resolve the problem of language, which seems to be a strong demand from users, is it possible to envisage arranging the menus in different languages in the form of an XML file, TXT or INI ?
Thanks

It's planned, but now there is other priority (web access for DB)
